The Victory Radio Band series was part of the Armed Forces Radio Service’s (AFRS) transcription efforts during World War II, ensuring high-quality broadcasts for servicemen overseas. A key component of this effort was Command Performance, a radio variety show that ran from 1942 to 1949, featuring top entertainers of the era, such as Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and Judy Garland. Since many troops lacked access to shortwave radios, the AFRS distributed Command Performance and similar shows on 16-inch transcription discs, including those under the Victory Radio Band series. These discs were shipped worldwide, helping maintain morale through entertainment. By the height of the war, the AFRS was producing and distributing thousands of transcriptions weekly, supporting over 800 military-operated radio stations across various war theaters.
