Aladdin Records was a Los Angeles-based record label founded in 1945 by brothers Eddie and Leo Mesner. Originally called Philo Records, it was renamed in 1946 and became a key player in jazz, rhythm and blues, and early rock music. Aladdin launched several subsidiary labels, including Score, Intro, and Jazz: West, and recorded in both Los Angeles and New Orleans with producer Cosimo Matassa. The label featured notable artists such as Lester Young, Billie Holiday, Lightnin’ Hopkins, and Charles Brown. Aladdin was sold to Imperial Records in 1961, later becoming part of Liberty Records and eventually Capitol Records, with reissues appearing on Blue Note Records.
