Imperial Records was a short-lived American record label active around 1917–1918 during the acoustic era of commercial recording. It was an independent label with a small catalog of 78-rpm recordings and is unrelated to the much better-known Imperial Records founded in Los Angeles by Lew Chudd nearly three decades later.
The label operated during a period when numerous independent record companies were competing with the major manufacturers for the rapidly expanding American market for phonograph records. Its brief existence makes surviving Imperial releases of this period of particular interest to collectors and discographers.
This Imperial Records should not be confused with the Imperial label established by Lew Chudd in 1946–47, which became an important force in rhythm & blues, New Orleans music, and early rock & roll.
